No One Should Go Hungry

“The on going objectives of the 'No one should go hungry campaign' are:

  • Raise the profile of the NACC
  • Raise awareness of National Community Meals Week, Dehydration Awareness Week and Nutrition Day as focal points to promote good practice
  • Generate debate by calling for the recommended Nutritional Standards for Adults to be adopted in every care setting
  • Change perceptions of nutritional care services by highlighting good practice in nutrition and hydration care as a fundamental part of good care
  • Further build relationships with trade and consumer media
  • Generate coverage in key media
  • Build strategic alliances

Reaching key decision makers is a major priority for the NACC during national campaigns involving nutritional care in whatever care setting – residential, day care or in the community. To do this the NACC worked with some key spokespeople including our Patron, Baroness Greengross, calling on MP’s to act to prevent older people suffering from malnutrition and dehydration.

All of the above formed the basis of a targeted national regional and trade media campaigns, which have achieved coverage in key titles, such as the Independent and Telegraph. The NACC also carries out an extensive social media campaign, targeting key organisations and celebrities who were passionate about these issues.

Following the launch of the campaign  in National Community Meals Week  2010 the campaign continued to build. The NACC has developed and issued Keeping Well in Winter booklet to all older people who receive community based services and Spotting the signs of malnutrition and dehydration information sheets, among a host of other supporting materials for professionals working in care. Highlighting the issue of malnutrition continues to be top of the agenda for the campaign and as a result the NACC issues releases with shocking statistics on the number of older people who tragically die in care or hospital due to being malnourished or dehydrated. Knock on the doors of their neighbors is a constant seasonal message the NACC raises throughout the Christmas period to ensure vulnerable people living at home are warm and eating well.

The NACC continues to push these key messages, ensuring the issues surrounding nutrition and hydration of those in care are front of mind for decision makers and to make sure those working in these vital core services are recognised for the hard work they do.”
