Past Chair gets Ambassadorial Role
Immediate past NACC
Chair Derek Johnson will be on his bike later this month as Ambassador Cyclist
as the Olympic Flame makes its way through the Leeds areas on the
19th, 24th and 25th June. (Those who were in
attendance at the end of last year’s conference may recall the photos of Derek
clad in cycling attire.) The role will see Derek and another LCC colleague cycle
ahead of the main Torch convoy providing extra support and information to the
Torch Ambassadors along the route.
Derek said “I never
thought I would be able to say I was involved in the Olympics especially as a
cyclist. It is a great honour to be involved, and the excitement the torch has
generated is immense.” Derek added “At a planning briefing when one of the
torches appeared people were queuing up to have their photo taken with it, so
what it is going to be like on the day is any ones guess".
