The NACC, are always looking at how we can better support the development of care catering teams and recognise the role chefs play across the sector.
That’s why we’ve been working in partnership with Umbrella Training to support the development of the new Care Culinary Leadership Programme, a Senior Culinary Chef Level 4 Apprenticeship designed specifically for care settings.
This programme has been shaped through consultation with NACC members who have formed part of this development team. It reflects not only culinary skills needed by chefs, but also a deeper understanding of nutrition, specialist dietary needs, and the role food plays in supporting comfort, dignity and overall wellbeing.
By creating a clear, high-quality progression route, the NACC aims to support workforce retention while ensuring chefs are equipped to deliver exceptional food and dining experiences for residents. This apprenticeship represents a significant step forward for the care catering profession.
Alongside advanced culinary and nutritional training, there’s a clear focus on leadership, giving chefs the opportunity to develop, progress and take on more responsibility over time.
For those looking at how to support their teams, it’s a practical way to invest in skills and build stronger kitchen environments.
Applications are now open, with the first cohort starting on 26th May 2026.
