At HILS, we understand that good health isn’t just about nutrition - staying hydrated is just as important, especially for older people and those living with additional needs.
Through our Meals on Wheels service, every delivery is more than a meal drop‑off. Our friendly drivers carry out a wellbeing check at each visit, taking the time to make sure clients are safe and well. If there are any concerns, these are shared with next of kin or relevant contacts, following our safeguarding procedures.
We know that some people may not realise they’re thirsty, may forget to have a drink, or may feel unsure about asking for help.
This can be particularly true for people living with dementia, neurodivergent individuals, or those with cognitive or communication difficulties, where recognising thirst or expressing needs can be more challenging, especially during hot weather.
To support this, we’ve introduced new hydration reminder badges for our drivers. These act as a friendly visual prompt to let clients know that we’re happy to help make them a drink alongside their meal. It’s a small change, but one that can have a big impact on comfort, wellbeing, and health.
By combining nutritious meals, regular contact, and wellbeing checks, HILS helps people stay safe, supported, and independent at home
