Signature Dining has unveiled its latest resident dining concept, The Chippy – a nostalgic celebration of one of Britain’s best-loved food traditions, designed to bring familiar flavours, shared memories and a little theatre to mealtimes.
Inspired by the traditional local fish and chip shop, The Chippy takes a familiar favourite and turns it into a complete dining experience, recreating many of the sights, tastes and rituals generations have grown up with.

From Friday night suppers and family trips to the local chippy to seaside holidays and eating chips from the paper, fish and chips has long been about much more than the food itself.
The Chippy has been developed to tap into those memories, using familiar dishes, traditional presentation, branded packaging, menu boards, table dressing and simple interactive elements to encourage reminiscence, conversation and social connection.
At the heart of the concept is a flexible menu of traditional chippy favourites, supported by a series of themed experiences including
The Local Chippy, Friday Night at The Chippy, A Day at the Seaside, Chippy Tea and The Chippy Social.
Each can be brought to life through a combination of food, activities and environmental touches, giving care teams the flexibility to create anything from a familiar Friday lunch to a larger resident event.
The concept also encourages residents to become part of the experience. Conversation cards, memory boards, quizzes and activities can prompt residents to share stories about their own local chip shops, favourite seaside destinations, family traditions and - perhaps most importantly - the age-old debate of what belongs alongside fish and chips.
Paul Robottom, Founder & Director at Signature Dining, said:
“Food has an incredible ability to transport us back to a particular place or moment in our lives, and few meals have that connection quite like fish and chips.
“For many of our residents, a trip to the local chippy or fish and chips on a Friday night will have been part of family life for decades. The Chippy gives us an opportunity to recreate some of that familiarity and enjoyment, while encouraging residents to talk, reminisce and share those memories with others.
“As with all of our dining concepts, it's about going beyond simply putting great food on the plate. We want to create experiences that residents genuinely look forward to and that bring people together.”
The visual identity for The Chippy has been deliberately designed to feel familiar and unmistakably British, drawing inspiration from traditional independent fish and chip shops. A classic oval badge, handwritten typography and newspaper-style presentation combine with a palette inspired by traditional signage and takeaway packaging.
Simple touches such as branded chip boxes, paper wraps, menu boards, condiment bottles, aprons and numbered orders can then help transform everyday dining spaces without creating an overly themed environment.
The Chippy joins Signature Dining's growing portfolio of resident-focused dining experiences, each designed to use food as a catalyst for enjoyment, participation and meaningful connection.
Paul Added:
“There is something wonderfully simple about The Chippy. Everyone understands it immediately, but behind that familiarity is a huge opportunity to create conversation and engagement.
“Whether someone remembers their Friday night order, the chip shop at the end of their road or eating fish and chips on a windy British seafront, everyone has a story. That's exactly what we want this concept to unlock.”
